The Oxford Foodbank collects surplus food from supermarkets and wholesalers (fruit, vegetables, dairy and bakery that would otherwise have gone to waste) and delivers it for free to charities who cook for people. Our twin aims are to reduce food waste in the Oxford area and to help alleviate food poverty. We work with charities supporting the homeless, refugees, youth clubs, pre-schools, people with learning difficulties, families in areas of deprivation via community centres, mental health charities and many others, more than 80 agencies in total. Each week, our team of 120+ volunteers tirelessly collect and distribute around 10 tons of food, supplementing at least 15,000 meals. As a volunteer-led charity The Oxford Foodbank is able to keep its costs very low and, for every £1 that we receive in donations, we can deliver about £20 worth of food.
