The annual Varsity March is a mammoth 80-mile walk between Oxford and Cambridge, completed in under 48 hours and organised by Cambridge University Rambling Club. The route passes through five counties (Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire) over public footpaths and quiet country roads. Stops are made for meals and for short breaks, but we continue walking through the night without sleep! Walkers from both Cambridge University Rambling Club and Oxford University Walking Club take part, and sponsorship money raised is split between The Gatehouse and Jimmy’s Cambridge. Many people do not plan to walk the whole distance but turn out to support their friends for short (and long!) sections. This year’s walk set off from St Mary’s Church Oxford at 11.10am on Saturday 18 June 2016 and after 31 hours of fairly continuous walking finally reached Cambridge at 6pm on Sunday 19th June!
