A new film has been released by Jake Gutteridge, an aspiring documentary filmmaker who studied Digital Media Production at Oxford Brookes University. The film title is “The Discarded (Homelessness Mental Health Documentary”, and it provides a powerful insight into the lives of current and former rough sleepers.
Filming took place in Oxford last year and the results can be seen on YouTube. Please encourage friends, family, and work colleagues to watch this film as well, and leave positive comments, as we would like it to reach as wide an audience as possible.
One of the primary purposes of the film is to promote compassion and understanding of the impact caused by society's stigma around homelessness and negative treatment of those living on the streets. Homelessness support charities and MPs are being made aware of the film to raise national awareness of the struggles faced by homeless people as part of a longer-term public campaign to increase awareness and shift perspectives.
