A group of 17 intrepid walkers plus one stuffed sheep gathered at the University Church on the 22nd June to start their attempted walk from Oxford to Cambridge in the annual Varsity March. As usual they are raising funds for the Gatehouse and a Cambridge homeless support charity called Jimmy's.
The participants are a mix of current and former students who are members of Cambridge University Rambling Club or Oxford University Walking Club. Amazingly each year a few hardy souls manage to walk the full 132km (82 miles), and this year the event organiser Stephanie together with Tommy and the group's mascot, Dylan the sheep were the ones who held out to the end. A further 3 walkers managed just over 100km, which definitely isn't bad going either.
Stephanie has now completed the course an incredible 18 times. That is a feat only surpassed by Dylan the sheep who has 2 extra walks under his belt, although Dylan does cheat a bit by having 4 legs!
Its not too late to add a donation on the Varsity March JustGiving page so please give generously in recognition of their magnificent efforts.
